Annotation

The course "Geography, globalization and business" is one of the optional subjects in the training of students in the master's program "Career Development and Entrepreneurship." In terms of contents, the main attention is paid to the theoretical and practical issues related to the globalization process, its geographical base and features, the stages of development etc. Discussed are global problems of humanity, how to overcome global trends and processes in the global economy, the peculiarities of territorial organization etc.

Course content:

The course is structured in three sections. The first section clarifies the nature of the process, examines the main categories and terms handled, and clarifies its interaction with other processes and phenomena of the social organization in the world. Special attention is paid to the global problems of humanity. Clarified is their nature, the reasons for their appearance, their main characteristics, the different trends in their development and in territorial aspect, etc. Students learn good practices to overcome them.

The second section focuses on the economic effects of globalization. Selected are topics addressing global trends and processes in the global economy, the peculiarities of the territorial organization and spatial development, the positioning of geographical centers, types of economic systems, models in the world economy, etc.

The last section deals with the geopolitical aspects of globalization. Proceeded is from the thesis of the close relationship and interaction between geopolitics and geo-economics and the comprehensive impact of globalization on all spheres of public life. Emphasized is on geopolitical risks on "hot" in the geopolitical sense, areas and territories and the risks brought to the world peace. Other geopolitical challenges have not been omitted either.

Teaching technology and assessment:

The course includes lectures and practical exercises. The course is conducted on the basis of pre planning of each lecture, including an exposition, a summary and a discussion, as well as links between the previous and the new lecture and connections with other disciplines and other scientific fields. The process of teaching is connected with the use of visualizations - presentations, maps, graphics, print materials and more. During the exercises students learn to analyze statistical information, to visualize trends in demographic and socio-economic development. Discussed are the trends in territorial or historical development of certain industries and sectors to provoke students' thinking about innovative ideas. Students develope and defend papers.

The examination procedure includes a written exam - on two themes from pre-defined conspectus corresponding to the content of the curriculum. The relative weight of the total test mark is 60%. The evaluation is carried out in six-point rating scale, according to the Higher Education Act and Ordinance № 21 of the Ministry / 30.09.2004. Credits are awarded only if the total mark is equal to or higher than Average 3 according to the system of accumulation and transfer of credits.
